This work is divided into two volumes according to historical periods: *Selected and Annotated Tang Poems: Early Tang – High Tang* and *Selected and Annotated Tang Poems: Mid-Tang – Late Tang*. The selection features approximately 800 poems by 193 poets. Using early texts and philological research as a foundation, and incorporating recent academic findings, it strives to provide a classic anthology of Tang poetry suitable for the contemporary era.
This book features the following characteristics:
1. Original Texts: Carefully selected and edited based on the 1999 Zhonghua Book Company edition of the *Complete Tang Poems (Quan Tangshi)*. Entries are arranged by format—five-character, seven-character, Recent Style (Jintishi), and Ancient Style (Gushi)—for ease of reading.
2. Brief Biographies: Biographies balance life history, literary merit, and critical reception, synthesized from domestic and international sources.
3. Annotations: Provides precise commentary on key or difficult vocabulary, personal names, geographical locations, allusions, and historical contexts. The language is concise and the annotations are apt.
