This book is the twentieth publication in the 'Traditional Arts Series' by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government. It centers on the life of Sun Rong-hui—a Taiwanese Opera character actor (cujiao), martial lead (wusheng), director, and founder of the Yi Shin Sheng Dramatic Troupe. It records his journey from a family troupe, Southeast Asian performances, Peking Opera troupes, and movie sets, to the Taiwanese Opera stage, martial arts training, troupe management, and cross-generational inheritance. Through oral interviews and historical research, the book highlights the often-overlooked labors of martial performers, character actors, and backstage workers within the century-long evolution of Taiwanese Opera, while outlining the technical spirit of a preserver of Taipei's traditional performing arts.
