Boiling the Frog Child: You Think You Are Loving Them, but You Are Pushing Them Toward Failure

Boiling the Frog Child: You Think You Are Loving Them, but You Are Pushing Them Toward Failure

by Hong Chun-yu

There is a kind of cruelty in the world where parents do everything for their children, eventually raising them to be incompetent.

A child's life belongs to them; they have the absolute right to do what they want to do.

Please remember: their existence is not meant to satisfy your vanity.

We often see news about children murdering their parents after being denied money, or jumping from buildings for unknown reasons. Is it because parents give too little love?

—Actually, in many cases, it is a problem with "education."

Education, of course, does not refer only to school. There are many things in life more important than exams: self-control, stress resistance, independence, communication skills, social skills, financial literacy, competitiveness, courage, honesty, compassion...

But under traditional rote education, these beautiful character traits are suppressed by Chinese, English, Math, Social Studies, and Science. When a child loves to draw, parents see it as "scribbling"; when a child loves to sing, they are criticized for being "tone-deaf" and forced to sit at a desk memorizing ancient prose or doing math... Over time, the child becomes increasingly passive and gradually grows to hate school.

Children will not stay under their parents' protection forever. Instead of forcing them to study, it is better to tell them the purpose of learning. Learning is not limited to general subjects; children should be allowed to explore anything they are interested in.

Parents do not need to make every decision for their children, nor do they need to worry about them facing setbacks.

Only through the experience of making mistakes can they make more cautious choices in the future!

[Independence vs. Dependence: Other People's Kids Are So Sensible!]

"Why can his child tidy their room voluntarily in kindergarten, while my third-grader still can't pack their own schoolbag?"

[Caring vs. Indifference: Does My Child Not Love Me Anymore?]

"Why are other people's children so sweet, while mine feels embarrassed to be seen with me?"

[Studying is Important, but Don't Be a Life Invalid]

Studying is important, studying is important—parents don't want their children to spend time on anything else, and in the end, the child knows how to do nothing but study.

[Don't Take Your Child's Place]

When checking homework, you are checking if the child missed anything, not fixing their mistakes. That is the child's homework, not yours.

[There is No Such Thing as a Free Lunch]

Aside from basic necessities, do not satisfy a child's material demands without limits. Prepare an account book and teach your child a correct view of money!
