H. G. Wells's 1909 novel, "Ann Veronica: A Modern Love Story," chronicles the journey of twenty-one-year-old Ann Veronica Stanley as she defiantly challenges the patriarchal authority of her controlling father in Edwardian London. Driven by a desire for independence, she flees her restrictive home to establish her own life, pursuing studies in biology and becoming deeply involved in the burgeoning women's suffrage movement. Her fervent quest for autonomy leads to unforeseen complications when she finds herself falling in love with a married man, compelling her to make a difficult choice between adhering to societal conventions and embracing her personal desires.
